Baseball Recap: Mattoon Takes a Loss

After flying high against Pana last Tuesday, Mattoon came back down to earth. The Mattoon Greenwave lost 15-6 to the Memphis University School Owls on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Greenwave have suffered since May 4, 2024.

Mattoon saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Madden Johnson, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. Those three hits gave Johnson a new career-high. Shayden Neff was another, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.

Mattoon's defeat dropped their record down to 1-1. As for Memphis University School, with the victory, they broke their eight-game losing streak and moved their record to 1-3.

Looking ahead, Mattoon will face off against Althoff Catholic at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. As for Memphis University School, they will challenge Geneseo at 3:45 p.m. on Friday.
