Basketball Game Preview: Halifax County Comets vs. Tunstall Trojans

Halifax County hasn't had much luck against Tunstall recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Halifax County Comets will take on the Tunstall Trojans at 7:00 p.m. Halifax County knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past eight matchups -- so hopefully Tunstall likes a good challenge.

Halifax County took a loss when they played away from home on January 7th, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed two weeks ago. They walked away with a 57-49 win over Martinsville. Given the Comets' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 86th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 206th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Tunstall suffered their closest defeat since December 9, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Martinsville by a score of 63-61. The Trojans have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Halifax County is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 9-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.4 points per game. As for Tunstall, their loss dropped their record down to 4-12.

Halifax County took their victory against Tunstall in their previous matchup back in December of 2024 by a conclusive 72-51. The rematch might be a little tougher for Halifax County since the squad won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
