The Pittston Patriots will take on the Holy Redeemer Royals at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Holy Redeemer will be up against a hot Pittston squad: the team just extended their winning streak to ten. The Patriots' pitcher stepped up to hand Greater Nanticoke Area a 17-0 shutout on Tuesday. The Patriots' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Brady Baldrica looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Silvio Giardina was a standout: he went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI. Beau Widdick was another key player, going 2-for-3 with five RBI and three runs.
Pittston kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Greater Nanticoke Area only managed one hit.
Meanwhile, Holy Redeemer got the win against MMI Preparatory School on Tuesday by a conclusive 11-5.
Holy Redeemer got a massive performance out of Zachary Schultz, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Cody Quaglia, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Pittston's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-0. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.3 runs on average over those games. As for Holy Redeemer, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.
Wednesday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Pittston hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .406. However, it's not like Holy Redeemer struggles in that department as they've averaged .313. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Pittston beat Holy Redeemer 4-0 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will the Patriots repeat their success, or do the Royals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
