The scorekeeper got an easy start on Wednesday as neither South Vermillion nor Riverton Parke made it on the board until the fifth inning. The Wildcats took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Panthers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since April 7, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Covington has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.5 runs over those games. As for South Vermillion, their defeat dropped their record down to 12-10.

Covington has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.8 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like South Vermillion struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.5 strikeouts.
