Basketball Recap: Cambridge Takes a Loss

Cambridge was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They fell 51-39 to the Alcuin Hawks. The Lions were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Hawks earlier this season, when they won 53-49.

Alcuin's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Spencer Smith led the charge by putting up 21 points. With that strong performance, Smith is now averaging an impressive 15.4 points per game. Nicolas Gholi was another key player, posting 15 points.

Cambridge's defeat dropped their record down to 5-12. As for Alcuin, their win was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 6-14.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Cambridge will venture away from home to face off against Ovilla Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Ovilla Christian's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last eight matchups. As for Alcuin, they will challenge Garland Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
