League recap: Bishop Verot edges North Fort Myers in nail biter

3A District 6 recap November 13, 2013

Bishop Verot and North Fort Myers played the closest game in 3A District 6 this week, with Bishop Verot eventually emerging with a 10-9 victory. Quinn Farrell threw for 115 yards and 1 touchdown during the win.

The Vikings made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 7,425 from 7,506. They were able to move up in the ranks after a 10-9 victory over the Red Knights last week.

Bishop Verot's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Jimmy Dwyer chipped in 45 yards. Beau Fortier helped Bishop Verot's passing attack out by catching 2 balls for 35 yards.

Dwyer was the best running back in the league this week. In 13 carries, he ran for 45 yards as Phil Dorn's team defeated North Fort Myers. Teammate Steve Brown added to the ground attack by rushing for 15 yards.

Leading the league in both passing and receiving yards, the Vikings' Farrell and CJ Spiro have proven to be a lethal combination. 6-2 quarterback Farrell has thrown for 1,253 yards this season, while Spiro has 23 catches for 545 yards. Demardre Patterson from Cardinal Mooney leads the league in rushing with 1,135 yards.
