Despite the loss, Elgin/Pope John had strong showings from Elizabeth Moser, who had five digs and four aces, and Gentry Zwingman, who had 14 digs. Zwingman has been hot recently, having posted 13 or more digs the last three times she's played.
Meanwhile, Plainview was able to grind out a solid victory over Hartington-Newcastle on Tuesday, taking the game 2-0. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive win against them.
Plainview didn't let Hartington-Newcastle take a single set, but it sure wasn't easy: every set was decided by three points or less. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 27-25, 25-22.
Elgin/Pope John's defeat dropped their record down to 12-3. As for Plainview, their victory bumped their record up to 8-3.
Here's a few offensive stats to keep an eye on ahead of Saturday's matchup: Elgin/Pope John hasn't let much over the net this season, having averaged 4.9 blocks per game. It's a different story for Plainview, though, as they've been averaging an even more impressive 1.2 blocks. Given Elgin/Pope John's sizable advantage in that area, the Pirates will need to find a way to close that gap.
