Softball Game Preview: Schulenburg Shorthorns vs. Flatonia Bulldogs

The Schulenburg Shorthorns will square off against the Flatonia Bulldogs at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Schulenburg has a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with five straight defeats, while Flatonia will come in with three straight wins.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Schulenburg's offense. They came up short against Shiner on Tuesday, falling 19-0.

Meanwhile, Flatonia put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They never let Louise get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by seven runs or more this season.

Jalee Trussell made a splash while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one home run and four RBI.

In other batting news, Brynlee Zimmerman was a standout: she scored three runs and stole a base while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March. Blakely Richter was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3.

Flatonia hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post two or more strikeouts.

Flatonia's win bumped their record up to 10-7-1. As for Schulenburg, their loss dropped their record down to 2-18-1.
