Recap: Bartow Yellow Jackets vs. George Jenkins Eagles
The Bartow Yellow Jackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their third straight loss. They lost to George Jenkins at home by a decisive 45-27 margin. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Bartow in their matchups with George Jenkins: they've now lost four in a row.
Bartow's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zakiya Zanders, who scored 7 points along with 11 rebounds and 3 steals. Zanders has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Bianca Berbick, who scored 7 points.
Among those leading the charge was Taylor Gibson, who scored 16 points along with 5 rebounds and 3 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which she has scored at least 25% of George Jenkins' points. Taleah Turner was another key contributor, scoring 10 points along with 6 rebounds.
Bartow's loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for George Jenkins, the win got them back to even at 1-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Bartow will take on Jordan Christian Prep at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for George Jenkins, they will be playing at home against Auburndale at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Auburndale comes in on a streak of failing to score more than 12 points in their last three games, a trend the team is of course eager to reverse.
