Soccer Game Preview: Southside vs. Emerald

Southside is 1-6 against Emerald since March of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Tigers will venture away from home to take on the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. Southside will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more goals each match than the last.

Southside is headed in fresh off scoring the most goals they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over Laurens on Monday. ANTHONEY BEDOLLA was a massive factor in the win as he booted in six goals all by himself.

Something new happened on Monday as Joshua Wong saw his first action of the season, playing 15 minutes against Laurens. Wong made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.

Meanwhile, Emerald was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat. They were a single goal away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of Laurens.

Southside has been performing well recently as they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 33 goals over those eight contests. As for Emerald, their loss dropped their record down to 3-6.

Everything went Southside's way against Emerald in their previous matchup back in April of 2024, as Southside made off with a 5-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tigers since the team won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
