Baseball Game Preview: Highlands Ranch Falcons vs. Highland Hawks

It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Highlands Ranch Falcons challenge Highland Hawks at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday. Highlands Ranch will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.

Highlands Ranch is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over West Point on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Highlands Ranch got a great performance from Thomas Healy as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts Healy has posted since back in April of 2024.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Crew Gerig, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. What's more, he posted two RBI, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. Zach Benner also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Highlands Ranch was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .308 or higher in three consecutive matchups.

Meanwhile, Friday just wasn't the day for Highland's offense. They fell just short of Columbine by a score of 1-0 on Friday. The game marked the first time this year in which the Hawks were not able to get on the board.

Highland is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 5-5. As for Highlands Ranch, their win ended a nine-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 3-3.
