Softball Game Preview: Brunswick Dragons vs. Bangor Rams

Brunswick is 2-7 against Bangor since May of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Dragons are taking a road trip to challenge the Rams at 4:30 p.m. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Brunswick is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their fifth straight game on Wednesday. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Morse. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 24, 2019, but that streak is no more.

Julianna Morin and Ava Zimmerman stepped up to the plate in a big way. Morin went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two doubles, and one run, while Zimmerman went 2-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. That RBI was Zimmerman's first of the season. Stella Maxim was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases.

Meanwhile, Bangor faced Hermon in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Rams fell just short of the Hawks by a score of 3-1. Having soared to a lofty 14 runs in the game before, the Rams couldn't push the score so high this time.

Sophie Lynch made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.

Brunswick's loss dropped their record down to 1-13. As for Bangor, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-4 record.

The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Brunswick has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Bangor struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.

Brunswick beat Bangor 4-1 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Dragons since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
