Softball Recap: North Side Has No Trouble Against Wyatt

North Side won the last time they faced Wyatt and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Steers put the hurt on the Chaparrals with a sharp 18-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Steers, who have now won five matchups by ten runs or more so far this season.

Mariana Calamaco was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Calamaco was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, North Side got a massive performance out of Maggie Casteneda, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, five RBI, and one double. Casteneda has been hot recently, having posted three or more RBI the last three times she's played. Another player making a difference was Yesenia Olvera, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, two runs, and two RBI.

North Side always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for North Side and bumps their season record up to 6-7. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 6 runs in those games. As for Wyatt, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost 11 of their last 12 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-13-1 record this season.

Coincidentally, North Side and Wyatt will both be playing Paschal the next time they take the field. The Chaparrals will host the Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Steers will head out to face them at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
