Recap: Gateway Eagles vs. First Baptist Academy Lions
The First Baptist Academy Lions typically have all the answers at home, but on Thursday the Gateway Eagles proved too difficult a challenge. In a tight match that could have gone either way, Gateway made off with a 63-62 victory over First Baptist Academy. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Tavian Cook was on fire: he scored 30 points along with 6 rebounds and 6 steals. That makes it two consecutive games in which he has scored at least 25% of Gateway's points. Another player making a difference was Christopher Davis, who scored 13 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Gateway and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for First Baptist Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-1.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Gateway will take on Ida Baker at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for First Baptist Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against South Fort Myers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
