Baseball Recap: Airport Takes Down Ranked Gilbert

Airport faced Gilbert in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Eagles were the clear victors by a 10-1 margin over the Indians. The victory was nothing new for the Eagles as they're now sitting on four straight.

Cash Epps spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on six hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Brice Gillette, who went 4-for-5 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Jeffcoat, who went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run.

Airport was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .400. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .357 or higher in three consecutive games.

Airport's record is now 22-6. As for Gilbert, they moved to 26-5 with that defeat, which also ended their four-game winning streak.

Airport will have a chance to go back-to-back against the Indians: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
