Basketball Game Preview: Freeport Bulldogs vs. Holmes County Blue Devils

Freeport is 1-9 against Holmes County since February of 2020 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Freeport Bulldogs will head out on the road to face off against the Holmes County Blue Devils at 6:15 p.m. Freeport has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.

Freeport will bounce into Friday's contest after beating Ponce De Leon, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Freeport came out on top against Ponce De Leon by a score of 55-43 on Thursday. The win was some much needed relief for the Bulldogs as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.

Meanwhile, Holmes County came tearing into Tuesday's matchup with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 28 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the Pirates 93-19. With the Blue Devils ahead 62-14 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Freeport better keep an eye on Emma Whitkaer. She was instrumental in Holmes County's win, going 10 of 14 on her way to 22 points in addition to six rebounds and four steals. Whitkaer is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. Bri Adams was another key player, putting up 11 points.

Holmes County pushed their record up to 20-2 with the victory, which was their tenth straight on the road. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.2 points per game. As for Freeport, their record now sits at 8-16.

Freeport was dealt a bruising 74-34 defeat at the hands of Holmes County in their previous meeting back in December of 2024. Can Freeport avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
