Basketball Recap: Winchester Community Comes Up Short

Winchester Community fought the good fight in their overtime match against Hamilton Heights on Saturday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 65-61 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hamilton Heights Huskies. While losing is never fun, the Golden Falcons can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 246th, while the Huskies are ranked 118th).

When it comes to explaining why Winchester Community lost, don't look at Carter Campbell. Despite the final result, he went 7-for-11 to rack up 16 points and eight rebounds. Another player making a difference was Carter Fraze, who posted 12 points in addition to five assists and five boards.

Tyler Champion had an outrageously good game for Hamilton Heights as he had 20 points along with six assists and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Gavin Saunders, who went 5-for-12 on his way to 12 points and eight boards.

Winchester Community has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six games, which has put a noticeable dent in their 10-9 record this season. As for Hamilton Heights, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Winchester Community will face off against Cambridge City Lincoln at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Cambridge City Lincoln is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 59.6 points per game this season. As for Hamilton Heights, they will welcome Westfield at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Hamilton Heights knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven matches -- so hopefully Westfield likes a good challenge.
