Football Recap: Cocoa Picks Up Eighth Consecutive Victory

It's playoff time, and Cocoa had no trouble coming through when it counted. They walked away with a 38-27 win over the Gadsden County Jaguars on Thursday. Cocoa's victory was all the more impressive since the Jaguars were averaging only 13.4 points allowed on the season.

It was another big night for Brady Hart, who threw for 260 yards and one touchdown, and also rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rushing yards. Latrison Lane was in the mix too, providing Cocoa with three touchdowns.

Gadsden County's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kemarrion Battles, who rushed for 110 yards and two touchdowns. Battles' rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his tenth straight game with at least 100 rushing yards. Another player making a difference was Landon Dougherty, who threw for 240 yards and two touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes.

The win (which was Cocoa's eighth in a row) raised their record to 11-3. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 7.9 points per game. As for Gadsden County, the defeat snapped their winning streak at ten games and leaves them with a 13-2 record.
