Football Game Preview: East Catholic Eagles vs. Lewis Mills Spartans

After each having a week off, the East Catholic Eagles and the Lewis Mills Spartans will shake off the cobwebs and hit the field against one another at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Lewis Mills took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on East Catholic, who comes in off a win.

East Catholic hadn't beaten Tolland on the road since October 16, 2015 but that history sure didn't bother them last Friday. East Catholic put the hurt on Tolland with a sharp 36-16 win. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest victory East Catholic has posted against Tolland since October 16, 2015.

Joey Montalvo had another great game (as he tends to do), picking up 45 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also rushing for 34 yards and one TD. Gavin Williams made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.

East Catholic didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Parker Barnes and Williams. Barnes also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with 11. He got in on the action too, converting a pick into a touchdown.

Meanwhile, Lewis Mills lost to Rocky Hill at home by a 22-8 margin last Friday. The defeat continues a trend for the Spartans in their meetings with the Terriers: they've now lost four in a row.

Lewis Mills' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for East Catholic, the win got them back to even at 2-2.

Everything came up roses for East Catholic against Lewis Mills when the teams last played back in November of 2024, as the team secured a 47-14 victory. In that matchup, the Eagles amassed a halftime lead of 40-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
