The Head-Royce Jayhawks will face off against the American Canyon Wolves at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Head-Royce is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.
Head-Royce is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand Montgomery a 1-0 shutout. The one-run effort marked the Jayhawks' lowest-scoring matchup of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.
Head-Royce saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mikael Akpala, who went 2-for-3 with one double. That's the most hits Akpala has posted since back in March.
Head-Royce hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Montgomery struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for American Canyon, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Tuesday. They came out on top against Stuart Hall on Wednesday by a score of 3-1 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game).
Dylan Brown spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on four hits and racked up seven Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because American Canyon is 6-3 when he allows at most two walks, but 6-11 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Royce Hall, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Head-Royce is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.9 runs over those games. As for American Canyon, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 12-14.
American Canyon's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Head-Royce hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .317. It's a different story for American Canyon, though, as they've only averaged .257. Will they be able to contain Head-Royce's hitters?
