Softball Game Preview: Minnechaug Regional Falcons vs. Monson Mustangs

The Minnechaug Regional Falcons will head out on the road to face off against the Monson Mustangs at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses for Minnechaug Regional and five for Monson.

The home team had come away the winner the last four times Minnechaug Regional and Pittsfield had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Falcons took a 15-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Generals on Friday. Even though they lost, the Falcons' still made a splash at the plate and bumped their average scoring up to 6.3 runs per game (they're now ranked -1th in scoring overall).

Ella Ferrentino stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Angelina Cross also deserves some recognition as she scored her first run of the season.

East Longmeadow hit Monson with a five-run fourth inning on Friday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Mustangs fell 9-6 to the Spartans.

Monson's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Minnechaug Regional, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-7.

Minnechaug Regional was able to grind out a solid win over Monson in their previous meeting two weeks ago, winning 12-9. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
