Basketball Recap: Astoria Victorious

Astoria took a 20-point defeat the last time they faced off against Gladstone, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Fishermen pulled ahead with a 55-54 photo finish over the Gladiators on Tuesday.

Astoria pushed their record up to 3-1 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.7 points over those games. As for Gladstone, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-4.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Astoria and Stayton will compete for holiday cheer at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Gladstone will take on Scappoose in a holiday battle at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Gladiators' defense better be ready for this one: the Indians have averaged an impressive 68.2 points per game this season.
