Football Game Preview: Elgin Comets vs. Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers

The Elgin Comets will head out to square off against the Waynesfield-Goshen Tigers at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Elgin is coming into the game hot, having won their last three games.

Elgin proved they can win big last Friday (they won by 39) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Lucas, sneaking past 18-15.

Elgin relied on the efforts of Jack Van Gundy, who rushed for 80 yards and a pair of touchdowns, and Zack Bowers, who rushed for 102 yards and one score on only eight carries. Bowers got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 81 yards.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Elgin was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 250 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 242 rushing yards every time they've taken the field this season.

Meanwhile, Waynesfield-Goshen beat Cory-Rawson 14-6 on Friday. The Tigers haven't had any issues with the Fighting Hornets recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Elgin's record is now 4-2. As for Waynesfield-Goshen, the victory got them back to even at 3-3.

Elgin came up short against Waynesfield-Goshen in their previous matchup back in October of 2024, falling 21-14. Can the Comets avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
