Basketball Recap: Brooklyn Heineman leads a balanced attack to beat Bennington

Basketball Recap: South Sioux City Cardinals vs. Bennington Badgers

Even though the South Sioux City Cardinals have not done well against the Bennington Badgers recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Friday. South Sioux City narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Badgers 63-61. The high flying offensive effort was a huge turnaround for South Sioux City considering their two-point performance the game before.

South Sioux City got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Brooklyn Heineman out in front who scored 18 points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Heineman hasn't dropped below two steals for seven straight games. Izabella Moret was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with six rebounds.

Bennington lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Presley Baca, who scored 16 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Skylar Johnson, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds.

South Sioux City is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games, which provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. As for Bennington, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 12-7.

Coincidentally, the two teams will both be playing Roncalli Catholic the next time they take the court. South Sioux City will head out to face the Crimson Pride at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday, while the Badgers will head out to face them at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
