Martin County is 9-1 against Centennial since February of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. Martin County got a good showing from Joseph Cuccurullo, who struck out nine batters over 3.1 innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits. Those nine strikeouts gave Cuccurullo a new career-high.
On the hitting side, Martin County saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Michael Sanchez, who went 1-for-3 with one double.
Meanwhile, Centennial put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They blew past Master's Academy 11-1.
Brayden Scheumeister looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and only two hits over four innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Gio Lopez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Alphonso Hernandez, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-3.
Centennial always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Master's Academy only posted an OBP of .167.
Martin County's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Centennial, their victory bumped their record up to 3-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Martin County has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Centennial struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
