Baseball Recap: Rio Comes Up Short

Montello hit Rio with a five-run seventh inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Vikings fell 6-2 to the Hilltoppers. The Vikings were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hilltoppers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2025.

Rio saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ashton Ladwig, who went 1-for-4 with one RBI. That RBI was Ladwig's first of the season.

Rio dropped their record down to 0-7 with the defeat, which was their fourth straight at home. As for Montello, they moved to 3-11 with that victory, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

While Rio had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
