Kaitlyn Blake leads a balanced attack to beat St. Marys

Recap: Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights vs. St. Marys Blue Devils

The Wheeling Central Catholic Maroon Knights came tearing into Thursday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.7 points) and they left with even more momentum. They came out on top against St. Marys by a score of 78-70. The victory was all the more spectacular given Wheeling Central Catholic's disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 170th, while St. Marys is ranked 15th).

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Wheeling Central Catholic to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kaitlyn Blake, who scored 20 points along with eight rebounds and two blocks. Blake is absolutely dominating the point category: she's posted at least 15 every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Bella Fitzsimmons, who scored 18 points along with five rebounds and three steals.

Several Blue Devils players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Brynnley Bulluck, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 11 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Callie Powell, who scored ten points along with six assists and six rebounds.

Wheeling Central Catholic is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six matches, which provided a nice bump to their 12-4 record this season. As for St. Marys, their loss dropped their record down to an identical 12-4.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Wheeling Central Catholic will take on University at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. One thing working in University's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last six contests. As for St. Marys, they will be playing at home against Wirt County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. Wirt County has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last four games.
