Softball Recap: Cumberland Dukes vs. Nottoway Cougars
Cumberland was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 9-8 heartbreaker at the hands of the Nottoway Cougars. Surprisingly, this marked the fourth straight game that the away team has come away the victor.
Kelly Womack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and three unearned) runs on ten hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, S Winslow was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-4 with three RBI and one double. K. Dudley was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-5.
Cumberland's loss dropped their record down to 0-6. As for Nottoway, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-2 record this season.
