League recap: Marshalltown extends winning streak with victory over Hoover

4A Division 3 recap Oct. 3, 2012

Marshalltown extended the longest winning streak in 4A Division 3 this week by beating Hoover, 61-7. The win marks fourth in a row for the the Bobcats.

Marshalltown took down the Huskies 61-7 last week, the largest margin of any game. Blake Gimbel threw for 363 yards and five touchdowns and ran for 15 yards in the win.

Dave Holdiman's team's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. On the ground Connor Ruddick chipped in 38 yards. Dacoda Ewalt helped Marshalltown's passing attack out by catching five balls for 102 yards.

De'Quan McDowell was the best wideout in the league this week as the Bobcats defeated Hoover. McDowell racked up eight receptions for 133 yards.

Marshalltown's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Bobcats feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Gimbel has thrown for 2637 yards and 22 touchdowns this season, while Tad Steffensen has 62 catches for 860 yards. Colten Fuller leads the league in rushing with 227 yards.

A big matchup in 4A Division 3 this week will be when Dowling takes on Ottumwa. As it stands, the Maroons are in second, while the Bulldogs are in third.

Marshalltown led the league in scoring this week after putting up 61 points on the Huskies. Gimbel in the win.
