Softball Game Preview: Las Cruces Bulldawgs vs. Organ Mountain Knights

For the second straight game, Las Cruces will face off against Organ Mountain. The Bulldawgs will venture away from home to challenge the Knights at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Las Cruces is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.4 runs per game this season.

Las Cruces is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of New Mexico's top teams: Organ Mountain, who was ranked 14th at the time (Las Cruces was ranked eighth). The Bulldawgs fell 8-3 to the Knights on Monday. The Bulldawgs' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

For Organ Mountain's part, the team relied heavily on Leah Melero, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Caillin Reyes, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.

Melero wasn't the only one making solid contact: Organ Mountain kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in three consecutive games.

Organ Mountain is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last eight contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-4-1 record this season. As for Las Cruces, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-4.

Organ Mountain's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Las Cruces has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.6 hits per game.
