Basketball Recap: Lorain's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Saturday

It was a good run, but Lorain unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell just short of the Columbia Raiders by a score of 49-47. The Titans lost against the Raiders in their previous head to head back in January, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 64-20 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Lorain lost, don't look at Samone Whitt. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double on 16 points and nine boards. Whitt has been hot, having posted nine or more boards the last seven times she's played. Ca'Milynne Shields was another key player, putting up seven points and four steals.

Even though they lost, Lorain smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 17 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in nine consecutive matches.

Columbia got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Natalie Miller out in front who posted 12 points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Kaitlyn Miller, who had nine points and eight rebounds.

Lorain's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-4. As for Columbia, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season.

Lorain will square off against Shaw at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Columbia, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 59-58 loss against North Ridgeville on the 30th.
