Basketball Recap: Dynamic Duo of Kaleo Olson and Dareon Dorsey Lead Ukiah to Victory

It was a proper cat-fight when Ukiah duked it out with Rancho Cotate on Wednesday. The Ukiah Wildcats had just enough and edged the Rancho Cotate Cougars out 47-44. This was a revenge game for the Wildcats: when they faced off against the Cougars last Tuesday, they had to take a 75-56 defeat.

Ukiah was led to victory by Dareon Dorsey and Kaleo Olson. Dorsey almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds, while Olson dropped a double-double with 11 points and 13 boards. Ukiah is 4-1 when Olson posts ten or more boards, but 4-18 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Carter Rhodes, who posted six points.

Ukiah smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 23 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in 22 consecutive matchups.

When it comes to explaining why Rancho Cotate lost, don't look at Adam Pengel. Despite the final result, he went 11-for-27 to rack up 28 points and six rebounds. Pengel has been hot recently, having also posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. Korey Cook was another key player, putting up five points and seven boards.

Ukiah's victory bumped their record up to 8-19. As for Rancho Cotate, their loss dropped their record down to 21-4.
