Basketball Preview: Miller Place Panthers vs. Wyandanch Warriors
Miller Place is 8-2 against the Warriors since November of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The Miller Place Panthers will head out on the road to face off against the Wyandanch Warriors at 5:15 p.m. Both teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with five consecutive losses for Miller Place and nine for the Warriors dating back to last season.
Last Thursday, Miller Place suffered a tough 56-35 defeat at the hands of the Golden Flashes. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Miller Place in their matchups with the Golden Flashes: they've now lost nine in a row.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the best came from Julie Orenzo, who scored 13 points. She continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Ava Zicchinelli was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Meanwhile, Wyandanch came up short against the Kingsmen on Tuesday and fell 50-40. While losing is never fun, Wyandanch can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 627th, while the Kingsmen are ranked 214th).
Miller Place has traveled a rocky road recently having lost six of their last seven games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season. As for Wyandanch, they dropped their record down to 0-6 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.
Miller Place strolled past the Warriors in their previous meeting back in January by a score of 62-47. The rematch might be a little tougher for Miller Place since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
