            Baseball Recap: Varela Vipers vs. Miami Christian Victors        
        
		
        
        
            Varela hadn't done well against Miami Christian recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way  on Tuesday. Varela had just enough and edged out Miami Christian  4-3. This was payback for the Vipers, who suffered  a  7-1  defeat the last time these two teams met.
 Andy Espinoza looked comfortable as he  didn't allow a single  earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent  recently: he hasn't  given up  more than one  earned run in four consecutive appearances.
 On the hitting side,  Tyler Rodriguez was  excellent,  going a perfect 2-for-2 with three  RBI and one  stolen base. That's the most  RBI  he has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of  Alejandro Ponte, who  scored two  runs while  getting on base  in all three of his plate appearances.

Varela pushed their record up to 11-5-2 with the  win, which was their ninth straight  at home dating back to last season. Those  victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as  they  averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Miami Christian, they have  been struggling recently as they've  lost eight of their last ten games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-11 record  this season.
 Varela and Miami Christian will both get a bit of extra prep time before their next  contests. The next time Varela sees the field they'll take on St. Brendan  at 3:30  p.m.  on April 7. As for Miami Christian, their break will end when they face ABF Academy  at 3:30  p.m.  on April 8.
