Softball Recap: Corcoran Takes a Loss

Corcoran extended their losing streak to four on Thursday, dropping them down to 14-9. They lost 17-2 to the Woodlake Tigers. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 5-0 on Tuesday.

Corcoran saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Amy Smith, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and one run.

As for Woodlake, the win (which was their 12th in a row) raised their record to 22-4. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 18 matchups by eight runs or more this season.

On Woodlake's side, Marriah Ellis made a splash no matter where she played. She struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Ellis has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBI, and one run.

In other batting news, Aaliyah Renteria was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. Mia Aldana was another key player, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, and one double.

Corcoran wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 14-1 victory against Farmersville on the 5th. As for Woodlake, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-2 win against Lindsay on the 5th.
