Baseball Recap: Garrett Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Losses on the Road

Garrett had lost eight games on the road, but after bumping their record up to 4-13 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past the Fremont Eagles 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Railroaders have posted since April 17th.

Grant Byers made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Josh Hogle was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. That home run was his first of the season.

As for Fremont, their record is now 14-6. Having soared to a lofty 15 runs in the game before, they couldn't push the score so high this time.

On Fremont's side, they saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cayden Hufnagle, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Looking ahead, Garrett will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger at 5:30 p.m. The Saints will roll in looking for their 15th straight victory, something the Railroaders surely won't give up without a fight. As for Fremont, they will head out to challenge Lakeland at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
