Softball Game Preview: Liberty County Panthers vs. Brunswick Pirates

The Liberty County Panthers are packing up and heading out on the road for their first away game of the season: they will take on the Brunswick Pirates at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.

Brunswick will square off against a team with plenty of momentum: Liberty County extended their winning streak to three on Monday. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 13-1 margin over McIntosh County Academy. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won three games by 11 runs or more so far this season.

Mya Armstrong was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than one hit in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 1.2 stolen bases per game.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Layla Santiago, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Those four stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Rebekah Campbell was another key player, getting on base in two of her three plate appearances with three stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

Liberty County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .655. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive contests.

Brunswick hadn't beaten Charlton County on the road since September 5, 2015 but that history sure didn't bother them on Monday. The Pirates blew past the Indians 14-4.

Brunswick now has a winning record of 2-1. As for Liberty County, their win bumped their record up to 3-1.

Liberty County came out on top in a nail-biter against Brunswick when the teams last played back in August of 2024, sneaking past 6-4. Do the Panthers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Pirates turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
