Softball Recap: Norwell Snaps Eight-Game Streak of Wins at Home

Norwell dropped their record down to 6-2 on Friday, which also ended the team's eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season. They came up short against the Homestead Spartans, falling 11-4. The match marked the Knights' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Kayla Watkins was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out seven batters over 5.1 innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Reese Frauhiger made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two doubles. She is on a roll when it comes to RBI, as she's now brought in three or more in each of the last four games she's played. Another player making a difference was Teagan Lesley, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

As for Homestead, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four contests by seven runs or more this season.

On Homestead's side, Macy Arnold looked comfortable as she pitched four innings while giving up just two earned runs off two hits.

At the plate, Homestead let Addi Adams and Olivia Schultheis run wild. Adams went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one run, while Schultheis went 1-for-3 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Trinity Rager also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.

Coming up, Norwell will take on Central Noble at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Homestead, they will head out to square off against Fort Wayne Northrop at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
