Basketball Game Preview: Rio Rico Hawks vs. Cholla Chargers

Rio Rico is 0-4 against Cholla since December of 2014 but things could change on Wednesday. The Rio Rico Hawks will head out to face off against the Cholla Chargers at 7:00 p.m.

Rio Rico is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Monday. They had to suffer through a 75-46 loss at the hands of Sahuarita.

Rio Rico's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Santiago Merino, who posted 17 points and six boards, and Francisco Alday, who went 6 for 10 on his way to 13 points and six rebounds. That was a full 37% of Rio Rico's points, marking the third time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ivan Arvizu, who put up five points and three steals.

Meanwhile, Cholla had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 46.7 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Monday. They took down the Bulldogs 79-64.

Rio Rico's defeat dropped their record down to 2-19. As for Cholla, their win bumped their record up to 13-3.

Rio Rico was dealt a bruising 77-29 loss at the hands of Cholla in their previous meeting two weeks ago. Can Rio Rico avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
