Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain Brook). Everything went their way against the Huffman Vikings on Tuesday as the Mountain Brook Spartans made off with a 20-0 victory. The win was some much needed relief for the Spartans as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
Mackenzie Wedell looked comfortable as she tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Those zero hits allowed gave her a new career-low.
On the hitting side, Addison Webb and Marianna Murray did most of the damage at the plate: Webb scored three runs and stole Two bases. while going 2-for-2, while Murray went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Those three runs gave Webb a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Anne Turner Goldman, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.
Mountain Brook's victory bumped their record up to 7-12. As for Huffman, they are on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-3.
Coming up, Mountain Brook will take on Homewood at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Homewood is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.9 runs per game this season. As for Huffman, they will face off against Bessemer City at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
