Softball Preview: Chapel Hill Tigers vs. Northwood Chargers

Chapel Hill has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will face off against the Northwood Chargers at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Chapel Hill is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 13 runs per game this season.

Chapel Hill has not done well against Carrboro recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Monday. Chapel Hill was the clear victor by a 20-5 margin over Carrboro. Chapel Hill might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won five contests by eight runs or more this season.

Alexandra (Kes) Duncan made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off six hits (and only one walk). Duncan was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances.

In other batting news, Chapel Hill got a massive performance out of Silvia Tellez-Flores, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in four of her five plate appearances. Another player making a difference was Channing Clark, who scored three runs and stole a base while getting on base in three of her four plate appearances.

Northwood lost a close one when they played on Wednesday but unfortunately for them the loss they were handed on on Tuesday was a bit more commanding. They suffered a tough 12-1 defeat at the hands of Chatham Central. Northwood has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Northwood saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kara Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Chapel Hill's record now sits at 7-3. As for Northwood, their loss dropped their record down to 4-7.

Chapel Hill might still be hurting after the 18-1 defeat they got from Northwood when the teams last played back in April of 2021. Thankfully for Chapel Hill, Caroline Garner (who struck out eight batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits) won't be suiting up this time.
