Mathis lost to Orange Grove back in April of 2025, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Thursday. The Pirates sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 5-3 victory over the Bulldogs. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Pirates have posted against the Bulldogs since April 20, 2021.

Audrey Salinas was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That home run marked the first that she has launched this season. Another player making a difference was Mallani Robles, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

Mathis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .545. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Orange Grove only posted an OBP of .304.

Mathis' victory bumped their record up to 7-3. As for Orange Grove, they are on a five-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-7.

Looking ahead, Mathis will take on Incarnate Word Academy at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Orange Grove, they will be taking part in a tournament against Rio Hondo at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
