Soccer Game Preview: Prospect vs. Oak Grove

The Prospect Panthers will take on the Oak Grove Eagles at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Prospect's last three matchups have been decided by no more than a goal, so don't be surprised if it's a close one.

Prospect is likely headed into the game with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Del Mar on Wednesday. Prospect fell just short of Del Mar by a score of 2-1. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 714th, while the Dons are ranked 285th).

Meanwhile, Oak Grove was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their 14th straight loss. They lost 8-1 to Piedmont Hills. Things were pretty much settled by the half as the Eagles were already down 5-1.

Prospect's defeat was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 2-1-2 and their overall record down to 4-7-4. As for Oak Grove, their loss dropped their record down to 0-14.

Everything went Prospect's way against Oak Grove in their previous matchup two weeks ago, as Prospect made off with an 11-1 victory. In that contest, Prospect amassed a halftime lead of 5-0, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Friday.
