Softball Game Preview: Hinsdale Central Red Devils vs. Willowbrook Warriors

The Hinsdale Central Red Devils will head out to challenge the Willowbrook Warriors at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Hinsdale Central has given up an average of 6.8 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hinsdale Central's last matchup with Downers Grove North could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Monday. The Red Devils came up short against the Trojans, falling 11-3.

Meanwhile, Willowbrook waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They were the clear victors by a 10-2 margin over the Blazers. The home team had taken home the W every time these teams have met since May 10, 2023, but that streak is no more.

Kyliegh Miazga looked comfortable as she tossed four innings while giving up just one earned run off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Liz Pettinger was incredible, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-5. Those two home runs gave her a new career-high. Allison Coppersmith was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Willowbrook always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .513. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Addison Trail only posted an OBP of .344.

Willowbrook now has a winning record of 12-11. As for Hinsdale Central, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 10-7.

Hinsdale Central was able to grind out a solid win over Willowbrook in their previous matchup back in May of 2023, winning 5-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Devils since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
