Softball Recap: Central Beats West Point for Their 19th Straight Win

Central came tearing into Saturday's match with 18 straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.5 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They blew past the West Point Warriors 13-1. Considering the Red Devils have won 24 contests by more than five runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

Kayla Storey looked comfortable as she pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Savannah Sevier and Mariah Harrison did most of the damage at the plate: Sevier went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI, while Harrison went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most runs Sevier has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Natalyn Lumpkin, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

Central was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .444. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .391 or higher in eight consecutive games.

Central's victory bumped their record up to 36-3. As for West Point, they are on a seven-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 12-20.

Central didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, an 8-0 win against Belgreen on the 19th. As for West Point, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Cullman at 4:30 p.m. The Warriors are facing the Bearcats at the right time seeing as the Bearcats are stuck on a six-game losing streak.
