Basketball Recap: Riverton Parke Comes Up Short

Riverton Parke fought the good fight in their overtime game against South Putnam on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They took a 62-55 hit to the loss column at the hands of the South Putnam Eagles. The Panthers lost against the Eagles in their previous head to head back in January of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was much closer than the 60-31 score last time.

When it comes to explaining why Riverton Parke lost, don't look at Haylee Mathas. Despite the final result, she posted 25 points. With that strong performance, Mathas is now averaging an impressive 15.7 points per game. Savannah Burleson was another key player, putting up seven points and six boards.

This is the second loss in a row for Riverton Parke and nudges their season record down to 9-7. As for South Putnam, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a massive bump to their 10-6 record this season.

Riverton Parke has already played their next matchup (against Attica), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. South Putnam will host Northview at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Northview will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something South Putnam surely won't give up without a fight.
