Recap: Lugoff-Elgin Demons vs. Westwood Redhawks

The Lugoff-Elgin Demons were the 69-60 winner over the Westwood Redhawks when they last played one another back in January of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Lugoff-Elgin received a tough blow on Tuesday as they fell 67-52 to Westwood. While losing is never fun, Lugoff-Elgin can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Westwood is ranked second).

Lugoff-Elgin lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Savon Jenkins, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and three steals. Another player making a difference was Braylen Mumford, who scored nine points along with two steals.

Westwood was led to victory by TJ Bell and Larry Brown. Bell scored 15 points, while Brown scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Brown has scored all season. Mike Balkman was another key contributor, scoring nine points.

Lugoff-Elgin has traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost five of their last six games, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season. As for Westwood, the victory was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 13-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lugoff-Elgin will face off against A.C. Flora at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in A.C. Flora's favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last eight matches. Westwood won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Ridge View at 7:30 p.m. on January 17th. Ridge View is on a eight-game streak of home wins, Westwood a four-game streak of away wins -- so someone will have to leave a streak behind on the court.
