UPPER MARLBORO, Md. - Special teams carried
Douglass (Upper Marlboro, Md.) to a 56-0 victory over Central (Capitol Heights, Md.) on Saturday as the return units contributed two touchdowns. The Eagles's special teams scored on two punt returns.
Douglass was up 32-0 at the half after taking the lead on a touchdown run by
Devonte Williams in the first quarter.
DHS expanded its lead to 44 points entering the fourth quarter. The Upper Marlboro school scored two times in the third, including once on a punt return touchdown by
Rodney Boyd.
Even though the Eagles led by 44 points entering the fourth quarter, they poured the points on, scoring 12 in the fourth.
Douglass' most effective player was
Kenneth Freeman. The junior running back ran for one touchdown. He has now scored five touchdowns on the season.
DHS went into the matchup giving up only 6.6 points per game. The Falcons' zero points were below their season average of 4.9 per game.
Last season's game between the teams resulted in a 57-0 win for the Eagles.
In a Prince George's County 3A/2A/1A game next week Douglass (7-1) takes on Surrattsville, and Central (0-8) will go up against Largo also in a Prince George's County 3A/2A/1A game.
