Basketball Game Preview: Hutchinson Salthawks vs. Maize South Mavericks

The Hutchinson Salthawks will venture away from home to challenge the Maize South Mavericks at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Hutchinson has struggled recently with five losses in a row, while Maize South will arrive with three straight victories.

Last Tuesday, Hutchinson ended up a good deal behind Derby and lost 69-54. While losing is never fun, the Salthawks can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 122nd, while the Panthers are ranked fourth).

Meanwhile, Maize South was able to grind out a solid win over Haysville Campus on Tuesday, taking the game 53-44.

Hutchinson's defeat dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Maize South, their victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 6-6.

Hutchinson came up short against Maize South when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 60-48. Can Hutchinson avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
