Softball Game Preview: Eastlake Falcons vs. Coronado Thunderbirds

Eastlake is a perfect 10-0 against Coronado since March of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when Eastlake Falcons duke it out with Coronado Thunderbirds at 6:30 p.m. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Eastlake has three straight victories, Coronado has five straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Saturday, Eastlake made easy work of Pebble Hills and carried off a 16-5 win. The Falcons might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 games by six runs or more this season.

Aydenn Estrada spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Gabriella Martinez, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and three RBI. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Celina Estrada, who scored three runs while going 2-for-3.

Martinez wasn't the only one working in the hit department: Eastlake kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. Eastlake is a perfect 12-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Meanwhile, Coronado lost 21-4 to Socorro on Saturday.

Coronado's defeat dropped their record down to 9-18. As for Eastlake, their victory bumped their record up to 19-8.

Eastlake took their win against Coronado when the teams last played back in February by a conclusive 21-1. Will Eastlake repeat their success, or does Coronado has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
